WTN: Dad’s Bordeaux

by David M. Bueker » Sun May 03, 2026 1:40 pm

  • 1998 Château la Bienfaisance Sanctus - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru (4/22/2026)
From my dad’s cellar, this was a new producer for me, and I was quite impressed by the classic structure combined with significant palate depth. Not a “wow” wine, but rather something that represents what high quality right-bank Bordeaux used to be. Gentlemanly and charming, with a bright pocket square for a bit of flash. There’s one more bottle in dad’s cellar, and I think it will make a fine tribute to him in a few years, paired with some grilled lamb and pleasant conversation.

That producer is new to me, too. It sounds like a well-made wine and I think your tribute to him sounds perfect.

The wine gets so-so reviews on CellarTracker, which for the most part is a positive for me.
