  • 2016 Betz Family Syrah La Côte Rousse - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain (5/6/2026)
Still youthful, with lots of dark fruit, but somewhere behind the blackberry bushes someone is grilling red meat over a wood fire. It’s just a hint of that core Syrah character, but it’s there. Structure and fruit is well balanced, so I am happy to let my other bottle sit a while.

How did you get into Betz, anyway? From what I can tell WA wine has never been a particular interest for you, so it's always unusual to me when you pop a Betz.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Dear (and departed since COVID) friend Joe Huber was a fan and introduced me to the wines. I was on the list for maybe 4 years, but dropped when I realized I had a bunch, and they needed age.
