by TomHill » Mon May 11, 2026 2:16 pm

Tried these four whites over the last weekend:
1. Stirm Calcite WW CienegaVlly (13%; http://www.StirmWine.com; 50% WirzVnyd R/CienegaVlly; 50% GimelliVnyd Chard ) Ryan Stirm/Stirm Wine Company/Watsonville/CA 2022: Light gold color w/ lots of tiny bubbles that dissapate; very fragrant/perfumed very floral/perfumed talc rather mineral/chalky quite perfumed/floral/R some ripe/lemony/lemon curd bit ripe peach beautiful/aromatic nose; slight petelliante very floral/lemony/lemon curd quite perfumed talc some mineral/chalky fairly rich/ripe lemony very pretty flavor; very long slightly off-dry very floral/lemony/ripe peach finish that tracks flavor; a lovely floral/R/lemon curd wine w/ lots of chalky minerality; quite a pretty/lovely white. $24.00 (SFW&S)

2. Herencia Altes Garnatxa Blanca D'dO: Terra Alta/Espana (13%; EuropeanCllrs/Charlotte/NC) Herencia Altes/Gandesa/Espana NV: Med.yellow color; fairly strong GB/floral/carnations some earthy/stony/metallic some rustic/coarse pleasant enough nose; soft somewhat rich earthy/stony/ light floral/GB bit metallic flavor; a rather earthy/coarse GB w/o the strong aromatics that GB usually delivers; a rather coarse/clunky/dull white w/o a lot of GB character; lacks aromatics; a rare Rosenthal clunker; not worth the $14.00 (KK)

3. Famille de Logeril Petite Marques de Pennautier IGP: Pays d'Oc (12.5%; 60% Chard/20% Viognier/20% SauvBlanc; http://www.Lorgeril.Wine; Albert Bichot/Henrico/VA) 2022: Light gold color; very fragrant/floral/Viog bit melony/Chard slight chalky/mineral some complex quite lovely nose; fairly rich/stony/chalky rather floral/Viog/melony/hard bit chalky/mineral very light herbal/SB somewhat savory/briney some complex flavor; very long savory/briney rather floral/Viog/melony/Chad finish that mocks flavor; quite a lovely floral/mostly Viog white w/ a nice touch of minerality; quite a nice/interesting white at a very attractive price. $17.00 (KK)

More zittlegurk from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I really liked the Stirm for being such a perfumed/pretty expression of CienegaVlly R. The Wirz Vnyd always delivers the goods when it comes to R. This is a natural wine but is perfectly clean & shows no natty character whatsoever.
I really liked the Famille de Logeril white. Usually Pays d'Oc whites are kinda coarse/rustic in character w/o a lot of fruit. But the touch of Viog gave it an aromatic character you seldom find in the Pays d'Oc.
