Long ago I discovered Cinsault as a stand-alone grape via the 2010, I think, Tamarack from here in WA state. It had great body and terrific spice. I loved it so much I ordered another half dozen from the winery and blew through them in less than a year. I've craved that experience since and brought these two home from my recent trip to the Columbia River. Opened last night side by side:
2024 Syncline Cinsault McKinley Springs Vineyard Horse Heaven Hills
Bright and candy-sweet raspberry top notes without the supporting spice elements I hope for from this grape.
2024 Echolands Winery Cinsault McKinley Springs Vineyard Horse Heaven Hills
Earthy, strawberry, dry and dull. This is my fourth wine from this brand, but not one has impressed. Considering all the money and lofty ideas being poured into this new winery one expects some wow moments, but I've yet to experience even one.
The best pour was a 50/50 blend of the two, but still: eh.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
