1997 Richebourg, Gros Frere et Soeur

Every now and then one encounters a wine whose aroma is so abundant, complex, and captivating that one could sit there all day just breathing in and marveling at the aroma. Actually drinking the wine is almost an afterthought. This is one of those wines. A grand cru Burgundy at the very top of its game. Oh, and the taste ain't too shabby, either. :D This wine is at its peak now. No hurry to drink it up, but I can't imagine it getting any better. Triple Curly with an extra Woo! Woo! Woo!

Nice! Can’t imagine what the current vintage costs.

Not too marked by new French oak, Paul? My limited experience with this producer (and never at the Grand Cru level, it should be noted) was of pretty woody wines in their youth.

Starting the birthday celebration early??? Sounds amazing, I know that feeling. Wish it happened more often.

It did not strike me as oaky at all. If there was oakiness when it was young it's disappeared in the 29 years since the vintage.

Regarding current pricing, I found the 2022 Gros Frere et Soeur Richebourg being offered on pre-arrival at the modest price of US$6053 for a six-pack.
