You know how some wines that you own, seek out, and love were first put on your radar by a buddy in your wine circles? Something that flies under the radar of the critics and the usual suspects? The 2010 Rollins Sous Fretille is one of those for me (and probably others), first shared blind by Jay Miller (the Real One) at a dinner 5 or so years ago. Given the reaction of the table, including one immediate guess what it was, it was clear this particular vintage of this particular wine was something like a house pour at the Miller residence. Well, I was duly impressed and immediately tried to find some, but to no avail until recently, although it took flying to London to finally get some of this. It was worth it.
This is still going strong. Beautiful lemon and quince, layered and long, full-bodied and oily on the attack yet bright and calcaire on the translucent finish. Terrific and a sensational value. A-/A
