Lesser known but greater prices from Kermit

by wnissen » Wed Jul 08, 2026 12:17 pm

Apologies for the common lament, but I was looking at the latest newsletter from Kermit Lynch. At the back were wines from the lesser known (or at least less prized) aligote grape (including Domaine de Villaine) for $52-59 a bottle. The Foillard Beaujolais Villages was the entry point for $33, $65 for the Cote du Py, and $75 for the Fleurie. Ouch!

The excellent Domaine du Salvard Cheverny was described thusly: "Consistently affordable and delicious wines are just as important as the bottles pulled out for special occasions. Zesty and brash, this Sauvignon Blanc packs an aromatic punch and delivers uncomplicated refreshment." $24. The similarly delightful Lapierre Raisins Gaulois is $26. There are two bottles, a Piemontese red blend and another from Colleleva in Le Marche for $14 and $18 respectively.

A mixed case gets you 10% off and includes shipping, which is something. But it's amazing to see how quickly these prices have gone up, even in an era of a relatively strong dollar.

Made me run to my favorite (and expensive) local wine shop's online inventory: $63 for the Fleurie, $54 for the Corcelette.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Wow! Now that is a helpful comparison. Because I know you don't live in an inexpensive part of the US, either. Kermit's price for the Fleurie is more than I paid by the glass, including tax and a modest tip, at a place in Lyon.

Look at what he’s charging for Boxler if you really want to get sick.

Kermit has always been pricey.
It is true that these value wines had gone up a lot , percentage wise at least.
Those are high, but the Raisins Gaulois is $21-24 around here, but used to be $12. And Foillard CdP is $50-55, but not so long ago was findable under $30,

Yup, I paid $38 for the '21 Corcelette and $46 for the '23. Last CdP I bought was the '16, which I paid $33 for. Haven't bought a Raisins Gaulois since about '16.
