We started off with a good Louis Bouillot rose, then advanced to:
2018 Boyer-Martenot Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay
Sue's. Mild vanilla with pineapple notes appropriate to its partial Meursault parentage. Very good and impressive for the vintage this far out--it did not show its age.
2023 Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits Villages La Montagne Blanc Chardonnay
Bob A's. Brought by Bob to pair with a delish coconut-milk snapper ceviche, an excellent choice owing to it's clean, citric acidity. New producer to most of us, apparently a "true garage wine" from a very small, little-known village just outside of NSG.
2022 J.A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay
Light yet creamy with apple and buttery biscuit notes, and citrus plus spice comes in on the finish. Classy.
2020 Henri et Gilles Buisson Saint-Romain Perrière Blanc Chardonnay
My wine. Lemon, flint, mineral-driven, intense, powerful and fascinating, deemed by one of my fellow tasters as "the total package". This is why we drink white burgundy.
At this point I served the next course, thick slices of Jamon Persille on a bed of dressed salad greens with radish-and-butter-topped coarse grain rye.
2017 Domaine Marius Delarche Pernand-Vergelesses Pinot Noir
Kim's. Bright notes of cherry and strawberry fruit with earthy secondary nuances. My favorite of the three pinots.
2020 Michelle Philipon Santenay Pinot Noir
My notes are sparse. Dark and young-looking. More body than I typically associate with Santenay. Very good.
2012 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Bressandes Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir
My wine, decanted for three hours before travelling to destination. No sediment. Nose of earth and green walnut shells, meaty and deep, dark cherry notes, presents as neither particularly young nor old, big bodied and rich compared to the previous wines. Very good, though lacks the detail of the Delarche, for instance.
I took the remaining third of a bottle home with me and drank it the next night. Was surprised to find some decay going on. Drink, don't hold.
2002 De Bortoli Noble One Botrytis Sémillon
Bill's off-theme wine with a cheese board, this was a warm medium brown with a gold rim. On the palate light and lively with creme brulee, clementine and, for me, a charming throwback flavor of Bit O' Honey nougat candy on the finish.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
