Is there an RSS Feed for this forum?

I am sure I am missing something perfectly obvious......

John, it's obvious in Firefox or IE 7 from the little clickable RSS icon that appears at the top of thepage, but might be less obvious elsewhere.

Subscribe to this link, and you're on the air!

I must be blind - I'm using firefox but I don't see the icon.
Usually it appears to the right of the url in my address bar - I'm not seeing it here

Either that or you had a nasty experience with RSS icons in your early childhood. I can see it in Firefox 1.5.0.4 - Win XP.

If you click on "WineLovers Discussion Group" at the top of the page, you will end up at the Wine Lovers Page Home Page. The RSS icon is at the left, near the top.

Firefox 2.0.0.3

If by the rss icon you guys mean the little orange box with the radio waves inside it, I'll be damned but I don't see it.
Now when I used Robin's link the feed appeared in my toolbar with the little orange thingy just fine.
I have no idea why I can't see it on any of the forum pages, but I'm telling you, I can't.

It's not a big deal at all for me, but it's one of those things that can drive me nuts trying to figure out.

That is completely weird, John. I am using the same Firefox version and it appears at the end of the address bar for me like usual.

Did you try dumping your cache and reloading the page?

I can't see it either on this page, but I could see it on the WLDG home page, though that is not a feed for this forum. So it could depend on the 'skin' one is using. I looked at the source code and something for rss is definitely there.

All this rss stuff, so often you click on the little rss icon and all you get is code. How is one meant to know what to do unless they know how to subscribe to a reader. It's not screamingly obvious for everyone.

I have a script-blocker addon active, and that may affect what I see. It took some looking, but on the home page, on the left, I find this:

Everything is text except the XML which looks like an orange button, and there's a "My Yahoo" button below that that doesn't seem to have any text equivalent.

I did a Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to copy here. <g>

Notice, though, that this page does NOT give an RSS feed for the forum. An oversight by me. <gulp>

I can't update it until I get home. But bottom line, if your FF or IE does not have the little square orange RSS icon in the address bar, the easiest way to subscribe to the FORUM, so you'll get a broadcast notifying you of new posts, is to copy (not click) this link into whatever RSS reader you use:

You're so right! Which is why both main modern browsers now read the RSS and offer to subscribe you in some reasonably understandable way. Are you using a recent browser?

Obviously not. Neil on the other side of the room has IE7 and it is formatted. I have IE6 - and it is not. I guess this is a problem for many people, though. Which is why I put my own site's RSS into a reader (feedburner) to start with.

RR, what'd you do? It's right there now, where I would have expected it to be all along.

What do you mean an "unmaintained style?"

Bob, It's for keeping tabs on what is happening on a web page / web site, without having to visit there all the time.
Obviously for people like you and me, who visit here every day (several times a day?????), the feed is redundant.
Cheers,
Sue

Well I tried to update Sue to IE7 and guess what? It will not run on XP Home SP1! We discussed upgrading to SP2 or not in another thread in General Chat, so it looks like it may have to happen at some stage. On the other hand, I installed FireFox 2.0.3 and that will probably work.

(Oops. This is a question that I really meant to ask in the technical forum, but the original post seems to have been made here. Sorry for the "intrusion.")

I tried subscribing to the aforementioned RSS links, but they seem to no longer be valid. Was the feed deactivated?

Yoni, this thread dates back to March 2006 and we were not on this version of the Forum software then. The old version had quite a few customisations made to it where this version I think is more standard. Perhaps the feed was an optional extra that the guys had added.

That is correct, and phpBB3 came without it. I'd love it if an RSS mod became available again, but the tech guy who installed the last one isn't around any longer, and I'm not sure we'd have the capability to install one.

It's worth a look, though ...
