WTN: Goats do Roam 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Fri Apr 06, 2007 9:46 am

Fairview Wines. Western Cape.

A "kitchen sink" blend: primarily Shiraz and Pinotage, but with some Cinsault, Grenache, Merlot, Mouvedre, Gamay, Cabernet and Carignan thrown in for good measure.

My wife and I used to drink this fairly regularly, but this was the first time in a while we had tried it.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Spicy, chocolate and very smoky on the nose.

Quite viscous in the mouth, smoky, spicy, tarry, black cherry, chocolate, silky, perfumed, with tangy acidity on the end.

Screwcap closure.

This bottling or vintage turned out to be much bigger, richer and thicker than I recalled previous bottlings being.

Purchased at $13.15 (Canadian).

Bruce,
Thanks for taking the time and effort to post a note on this. Both NJ and I have enjoyed this quaff in past vintages, but it somehow fallen off our radar. Thanks for the reminder that I need to try it soon.
