NiagaraCool '07 Winery trip, June 23- "official thread"

by Ed Draves » Fri Apr 06, 2007 8:02 pm

Keuka Lake is the place. I spoke with Abel from Ravines wine cellars today and he promised to "roll out the red carpet" for us. I'm thinking we should also visit Dr Frank and perhaps 1 or 2 more. As it gets closer and I get a better idea of who's comming, I can arrange more details. Who wants to come? Please post or IM me.

Sounds good Ed. I'll try to round up a few locals that may be attending the annual Home Made Wine and Sopprasota competition coming up in the next month or so. Actually, Bully Hill has a very nice restaurant where we might do lunch. :P

Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Great food, great beer, great view; lousy wine.

The last time I was there they would allow you to open any bottle of locally made wine. If that is still the case then one is not stuck with Bully Hill wines at their restaurant.

They must be getting desparate for some kind of business. But do have to admit that would really improve things.

Ed, as just posted in the offlines thread, it looks like - schedule permitting - I may be judging the NY State Fair in Syracuse from 9-4 Saturday. I hope we can somehow work it out where I could at least catch up with the group for part of the time. Ya think?

Robin,
I'm all for meeting up at a winery or even driving to Syracuse to pick you up after or drop you off before. I'm an early riser and as long as I'm back in Buffalo by 11, I'm fine.

Ed, I am trying to make my annual trip to the area to my Sister in Rochester coincide, but still up in the air a bit. Would the winery visits be on Sat, the 23rd?

Ed -

I'll probably make it as well, but could you let me know which winery you'll be at first and what time?. Since I live in Cortland, it makes sense to meet you guys over there. And Robin, will you be having a rental car?

Mark,
I think Ravines first and then Frank. I don't know the times yet- As the date gets closer, I will have a better handle on times and a schedule. We can always call you when we get close.

Nuts. I will not be able to make it this year. My son's wedding reception is that weekend. (He's actually getting married June 9, but it's a family only affair and the reception follows by 2 weeks.) Since the reception is at our house, I guess I better be there.
Have a great time. I know you will.

Ed,
Count me in for Keuka Lake. Just me, Nancy won't be able to make it. I'll probably be coming over from Ithaca and could provide a ride for anyone from there.

Ed,

My girlfriend will be coming along on the winery trip, so add one more to the list.

There has been mention on other threads of a possible dinner Saturday after the winery visits. Would you be going back to Buffalo for that, or staying in the Keuka Lake area? Thanks.

Steve,
Since it looks like the gang coming from Buffalo can fit in my minivan, I'll stay for supper if the rest want to.

Pam and I will be there. Change of plans for Sunday means I don't have to work at the winery.

Ok we are 10 days away from our winery visit and here is the list of who has signed up so far. If you are not on the list and would like to join us, just let me know.
Departing from Buffalo-Niagara region:
Me, Jay B. (a friend of mine and Riesling nut), Howie, John Fiola
Meeting us there:
Steve Guattery plus 1, Mark S, Dan Smothergill, Bruce Hayes and Debbie. Dave Gimbel?.
If you are not on the list and confirmed with me, please drop me a note and I'll get it squared away. Disorganisation is part of my nature and I apologise in advance.

Ed when do you need to know? My wife (Jeannette) and I have not decided if we are coming up Friday or Saturday. If we come up Friday we would love to join you.
