WTN: Pinot and Spätburgunder

We started with some not-spicy-enough, fake-finnish-made Chorizo which were rather nice with the Spätburgunder. Then we had boeuf bourguignon with the Chambolle, which also was rather nice.

• 2004 Winzergenossenschaft Sasbach Sasbacher Rote Halde Spätburgunder Weißherbst Spätlese Trocken - Germany, Baden (5/8/2007)
  Light pink. Vegetal nose with quite a bit of pinosity. Though a Trocken, it does have sweet fruit so it isn't tart despite the rather noticable acidity. Mineral aftertaste. Very pleasant!
• 2004 Maison Champy Chambolle-Musigny Les Bussières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (5/8/2007)
  Sweet but savoury and beetrooty. Perhaps a touch more "Californian" in style than I remember from my last taste because of its opulent fruit, yet it still has nice acidiy. Not as mineral as I remembered it to be. Very nice anyway!

While I have not tasted the widest range of German spatburgunders, I have found some to be a very enjoyable cheap fresh and easy guzzling wine, because of course I love the grape so much. Although the more ambitious versions have yet to convince me.

Dirt cheap? In Finland? Lol!! Funniest joke I've ever heard! Nope, it cost 15€. But as I've often said, it is a miracle if I find anything honestly interesting for under 20€ here.

Sounds ok. So it was probably dirt cheap originally, and therefore a nice wine to guzzle easily. A good category.

The Weissherbst (white harvest) wines I drank while living in Germany were almost all from Baden as was Otto's example. They are quite quaffable if well made.

Rahsaan, I think the ex-cellar price would be something around 4,5€ as that price tends to sell at around 14-16€ here. A nice quaff for that price.

Indeed. IIRC this is the only one available here, but it has almost always been a nice drink. Some years it has had a very strange carrot-like smell which was more interesting than pleasurable, however.
