Gasp! I may never fly again!

by Randy Buckner » Thu May 31, 2007 5:26 pm

From Decanter:

Robert Parker wine notes will grace tray tables on US Airways aeroplanes next month as part of a joint scheme between the airline and BusinessWeek magazine.

Reprints of Parker's BusinessWeek columns are set to appear next to advertising on the backs of seats and are revealed when the tray table is deployed.

Parker is one of the columnists to be featured in the scheme. He will be joined by the likes of management experts Jack and Suzy Welch.

The columns will be changed monthly, laminated and displayed on economy class seats. The wine guru's articles will also be visible on first class seats as of July.

According to one west coast publication, some, however, will be dismayed by the news.

'Consumers who suspect they may never escape the omnipresence of wine god Robert Parker…will soon have more than one reason to think so,' said the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper.

According to the newspaper, America West, a subsidiary of US Airways, has been experimenting with such advertising for over three years. Editorial content was added after it was found that passengers remembered advertising better when it was displayed alongside independent articles.

Jack is actually quite funny occasionally doing the Red Sox pre-game show with Tom Caron (local guy) and Dennis Eckersley.

I've heard there's already a controversy brewing up....something about the people way in the back in Coach not getting the Parker seatbacks as quickly as the people toward the front of the plane.

Reading Parker TNs on US Air flights is like me reading the NY Times food section on Yom Kippur. I'll read, but I won't be eating or drinking what they're serving.

Any day now, you can expect Parker's notes to be posted directly above the urinals at fine restaurants and sports stadiums everywhere.

Calm down, old timer, you know how excited you get at feeding time. You said you wouldn't tell on me if I got the nurse to help you with your bathroom problem. You're on your own now, pal...

The last post is probably the only truthful and lucid thing I've written this year. I sure hope I can remember today tomorrow.
I thought you were writing a book about North Korean Gourmet food that you've eaten?

One thing good about that -- there wouldn't be any market competition. What is your source for dog meat?
