WTN: 1995 Bocquenet Echezeaux

by David M. Bueker » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:05 am

A gift from Maureen Nelson (thanks so much!!), shared with Thor & Theresa Iverson.

Served alongside grilled ribeye steaks, this was opened spur of the moment when a 1996 Chevillon was corked. I have never been so happy about TCA.

Ruby red color. Aromas of red fruit, game & earth that became more and more expansive over time. Very open and smooth on the palate, but with just a rough edge or two, like silk that is slightly frayed around the edges. All of the elements on the nose are interwoven in a seamless whole on the palate. Glorious with the steaks, as it has the body to stand up to the meat, and also the elegance to be a partner, not the dominant force. Echezeaux has sometimes been considered less of a Grand Cru, but this bottle showed a breed and class that put that though to rest. Outstanding.
