Yeah, yeah, I know your'e supposed to drink the whites fresh and young. If anyone's wines will convince you otherwise, it's probably Rod's.

Medium gold, somewhat oily mouthfeel, tastes like a double-distilled essence of Gewurz. Californian in ripeness, but flavored like a triple intensity Alsatian Gewurz. Delicious!

I didn't say it was spicy - it tastes sort of like a good apple spice cake.

Bought at the winery in August 2004 for $14. Speaking of bargains....

We recently had the 2005...clearly G wine on the nose.. but on the palate, pleasantly dry and fruity, but with none of the cloyingness of far too many G wines that I have tried...maybe that's what you mean by `double distilled' too...that it was everything good about Gewurz w/o the burden of excess RS...

I recently had this wine, too. It's all that you say, but also quite light in body. Many Alsatian versions are just too heavy for me these days; this wine was definitely in a different camp altogether.

I was referring to the "experts" (former drips, under pressure) that tend to get quoted in the sort of magazine that you see in dentists' offices. :-)

Exactly. Despite its apple-spice aroma and flavor, it 's totally dry, and not at all cloying.

I've had Saralee's vineyard Gewurz from Field Stone, too. It's amazing how two good winemakers can make the same grapes into good and very different wines!
