2001 Loosen Spätlese, 1996 Benziger Cab

2001 Dr. Loosen Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer, Mosel (6/23/2007)
Continuing the experimental drinking of 2001 Rieslings, this is just starting to get into a drinking window. Spice, citrus and apple peel aromas lead to a smoky, spicy and slightly creamy set of flavors with good acid balance. This can be drunk now with pleasure, or held for another 2-3 years to gain even greater complexity. While very good on its own, it was stunning to drink outdoors on a cloudless, 70-degree evening with good friends.

1996 Benziger Family Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Mountain (6/23/2007)
Consistent with my last bottle about a year ago, this is soft, fruity and very easy to drink. It's also a great food wine, as the fruit is not in any way jammy or overripe. Delicious with mixed-meat (chicken, pork & steak) kabobs.
