WTN: Bodega Lurton Malbec 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Jun 28, 2007 7:10 pm

Mendoza. From the brothers, Jacques and Francois.

Very dark purple.

A full-throttle wine, bursting with rich, fleshy and somewhat sweet raspberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit, some garrigue, very spicy, smoky, tangy acidity, peppery, red licorice, rather floral, with a not unpleasant bitter edge to give it a bit more bite.

An incredibly gulpable wine that just screams BBQ.

A very long finish, fruity and peppery.

Screwcap closure.

A steal at $11.15 (Canadian).

Will have to buy lots more of this for the summer BBQ season.

Bruce-- outside of the super premium (and pricey) Cachayes which is the best malbec made by Lurton, I think that they make some very interesting Cabernet Sauvignons. Not sure what you can get your hands on, but I would suggest searching out the following:

Lurton Reserve Cabernet
Gran Lurton (Cabernet)

Not 100% what the exact denominations on the labels are in all the export markets, but maybe you can ask the folks where you got this Malbec if they stock the above labels.

Cheers from Buenos Aires,
Alejandro

I believe this a Lurton brothers label sourced from the south of France.
