WTN 2006 Quinta das Arcas: Arca Nova Vinho Verde... $7 Buckos!!!

I don't think I have ever been blown away by a $7 wine, ever! Straw yellow, with notes of fresh and tart nectarine and white peaches, this was a lovely pre-holiday fresh and clean wine that went beautifully with my shrimp/broccoli/brown rice dinner. Zippy acidity and pleasant (and not overwhelming) minerality - a true summer Portuguese treat for such a low, low price.

I saw this bottle at the store and almost bought it for a barbecue we had last night. I ended up buying the 1 liter bottle of Berger Gruner Veltliner which was pretty good. I will give this a try next time I head to the store. Thanks for the note, Paulo.

Best,
Marc

7 Buckos? Isn't one quite enough for this group?

Paulo,

We tried this last night. This bottle had a pretty heavy sulfur stink when first opened, that went away after 30-40 minutes. The wine had a pleasant honeydew melon, salty, under ripe pineapple nose. It was pretty frizzante at first, with good acidity, airy body and some minerals. Very nice after the sulfur blew off. A good summer sipper.

Thanks for the tip,
Marc
