WTN: Las Moras Chardonnay 2005

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Jul 15, 2007 12:01 pm

San Juan. Argentina.

Another wine ruined by way too much oak. When will the madness end!!?? :x

Buttery, okay nose.

Tangy, slight bitterness, very woody, lemon, some tart lime, lots of vanilla and caramel.

A bitter, lemon rind, finish.

Organic.

Purchased at $11.95 (Canadian).

Briuce, IMHO the only white from San Juan that I would dare try would be (perhaps) a Torrontes... I suggest sticking to Syrah, Tannat, and some old vine Malbec & Bonardas that are doing well in this region.

San Juan has a long tradition for making huge quantities of bulk wines... they have gotten better in the last couple of years but for now, you have to stick with the reds Ive mentioned.

Bruce, BTW, have you tried the Mora Negra...? Its a very good blend of Bonarda/Malbec made by Finca Las Moras.
