2005 Four Vines Naked Chardonnay Santa Barbara California. 13.9% alcohol; no oak. $10; great QPR for the style.
Pale yellow color, clear hue, lovely crisp apple and pear aromas with mineral and spice notes, very good fruit tastes, grapefruit, apples and perhaps pears, very good acidity in excellent balance with the fruit, long finish, lovely match with broiled chicken on Romaine lettuce and a bit of crusty French bread. The wine was an almost perfect match for the food, enhancing the crispness of the salad, and sweetening the slightly charred character of the chicken. 4*.
Notes: Fruit from three vineyards in Cat Canyon in Northern Santa Barbara, whole cluster pressed, fermented in 100% stainless steel; no malolactic fermentation; 28,000 cases. http://www.fourvines.com/
