WTN: 2002 Lucien Crochet "Le Chene" Sancerre, France

13% alcohol
pale straw color with some transparency
Lemony, slightly herbal scent.
On the palate, crisp and pleasant but not too biting. Would be a great match for many seafood dishes (I had it with crab and shrimp cakes). "Le Chene" is a reliable label from Sancerre (from Lucien "Crockett" as one lady called the producer.)

5 years old. Interesting. Was it oaked? Didn't sound faded in any way.

Not oaked and seemed to be in a good drinking window. I know Rahsaan and Dr. Randy Buckner encourage giving the better Sancerre whites a few years in bottle (i.e., those from Francois or Pascal Cotat). I may have two more bottles of the 2002 Le Chene and will check over the weekend as I wouldn't gamble on keeping them until next summer.

Sancerre Blanc, Semillon from Oz, and of course the sweeter Germans; are all whites we like to put some age on. We even have an '03 "Vinters Select" Finger Lakes Riesling that we are holding to latter this simmer.

Cheers,
Carl
