I had an appointment with my esthetician yesterday, and we got on the subject of tattoos. She told me again about what happens to the tats as one gets older and the skin dries, sags, and wrinkles. The tats get ugly, as they sink into the wrinkles and sagging skin. She feels the same as I do about beautiful skin being destroyed. We both feel that all those tats all over arms, necks, backs on folks make them look dirty. She has worked in the medical field since college, and she is now in her 70s and wants to work until she is 80 years old. She has also taught nursing classes at Shasta College, so she has a lot of experience. We also got into the tattood eyebrows, botox, and many botched jobs that do not turn out well. I think the tattooed eyebrows are ugly. Yes, many are well done, but they still look fake. I would never hold one's tattoos against them when hiring for a business, or hiring for a project at home. That is their choice. just my opinion FWIT! By the way, one can have better-looking eyebrows by getting them trimmed by a professional and, if needed, putting a little color on them. I did that once, and they looked great. I need to do it again.

It is really hard to see someone who has a tattoo done by someone that couldn't spell. It it also inadvisable to mention it....

This one done by an 'artist' obviously unfamiliar with Bon Jovi......

oh, man. i'm freaking covered. i'd post a picture if there was an easy way to do so.
but what is it with them? for me it started as an act of rebellion. then it was about adding certain things that had some meaning to me. it's also about the addiction to the massive endorphin rush, though i don't go for them as much anymore.
there are a few i'd consider still getting but i'll need to do it before my skin gets too thin from age.

Endorphin rush? From what exactly? I've never heard of this. Huh!

Robert, do I remember a raven or an eagle? I remember you posting a pic of a new one you got back when. Artistically impressive but wow, that must have hurt like hell.

The pain of having tiny needles jammed into your skin for 3 hours. It gives quite the buzz. Many times I've gotten off the table feeling high as a kite.

I have a veritable zoo on me now: tigers, leopards, snakes, pandas, dragons, bluebird, owl, and all sorts of flowers and flora.

Oh, my! :o I've had acupuncture, including cupping. I've never had this experience. But then, my sessions have only lasted an hour.

This is completely different from acupuncture or cupping. In both of those instances its only one object in one specific place. A tattoo entails outlines (done with single needles) and both shading and coloring (done with a tip that contains about 7-9 small needles). Said needles are then dragged across your skin hundreds, if not thousands of times, and must penetrate into the dermis layer so that the ink can remain permanent and stationary.

Certain parts of the body hurt more than others. I'll try and post a pic of my back piece but photo file sizes are pretty large these days and I don't think the interface of this forum can handle them. And I'm too lazy to resize them.

Weird. I just logged out of my work computer so I could try and post a picture from my phone. The mobile interface doesn't show a login button. At least, not that I could see.

I disagree that this article is worth the investment of time. It is merely a question that the scientists have raised as possibly worthy of investigation. There is no hypothesis nor more than a lay supposition that there may be a connection other than coincidence that people with tattoos show up with more skin cancers than people without tattoos. To get to this point you will need to rule out many other activity and environmental factors that individuals engage in before getting to ink on their skin as being somehow linked or contributory.

I read it and wondered exactly how many pairs of twins, one with tatts and one without, are running around Denmark and available for testing. Can't be a very large sample size.

That said, at the very least, like many things, all that ink can't be good for you. I used to dye my hair, but while that stuff was on my scalp it stung pretty badly. At the very least it was an allergy and in my case probably not a benign process, so I stopped. I am now Legally White.

My grandmother used to tint her hair blue. But now, in the old family reels, those dyes have deteriorated and she has brilliant red hair!

LOL, Jeff! Gosh, it's been a long while since I've seen a true 'blue hair' though I remember the phenomena well and still use that term to describe earlybird restaurant dinner hours.

I also had a grandmother that was a blue hair granny - it was the accepted thing 70+ years ago (from around 1950s to 1980s?)- it was like abandoning your youth and sliding into the 'Golden Years'. and becoming one of the 'blue rinse set'. Glad that habit has pretty much died out.

I see blue hair all the time here in the city. And pink. And Raggedy Ann red. And purple.

Oh yes, all the hair paint! Not my thing but I do find it amusing.

I like everything that young people are doing with their hair and their manner of dress now days. I don't agree with it all, and even during my youth, much of it would not have appealed to me. But, I love going outside and seeing the parade every day. I delight in all forms of DEI!

I've seen hair paint on a lot of the grannies in my neighborhood. And I'm okay with that!
