To be a pedant , I have to point out that no vegan would need to worry about their lactose tolerance.

But I'd wager that there are quite a few vegans out there who are unaware of that. Just as the majority of the gluten-free fanatics are unaware that avoiding gluten is only necessary if you have celiac disease or a related digestive disorder. Most food faddists are unaware of nutritional science.

I don't think knowing that milk is an animal product needs any nutritional science. I know quite a few vegans, none has ever (after specifying vegan) bothered to mention lactose intolerance (though sure some are, to some degree most of the world's population are LI) !
