You have the right to remain silent. Anything you buy pre-made can and will be used against you.

Peas
Corn
Lima beans

Those are the three they've managed to get "right."

Some frozen fruits for baking raspberries, blueberies, blackberries.

They have not yet figured out how to do green beans. I've never had a frozen green bean that wasn't absolutely awful

Chef, our lists match for the same reason. Which may be why I have the temerity to recommend frozen haricot verts from Trader Joe's to you. They're the only frozen green beans I've ever liked. They're IQF'd, and cook perfectly in a microwave just rinsed, drained and cooked dry with but a bit of butter.

Do you at least make ice?

Can't say I've had a need for ice in recent memory..

But if I ever go on a cocktail kick perhaps it will be necessary. So I'll at least keep the freezer just in case.

Bob Ross wrote:I'd be interested in whether folks here stock frozen foods, especially fruits and vegetables. We find that fresh vegetables are almost always better, but that a few are often more reliable and often much better than what's available fresh.

Examples:

Peas
Corn
Edamame
Blue berries
Blackberries
Cherries
Lima beans
Broccoli florets

We particularly like the Stahlbush Island Farms brand.

Any thoughts?

Bob, (I am thinking that you are off house buying or something in New Mexico, so if that is so, then a late reply is understandable.

But, Isn't it a given that fresh is most always better than frozen? Isn't it also a given that the season for most fresh vegetables and fruits are of short duration? Yes, I know that some vegetables and fruits are available year around much of them coming from Chile. I wonder though how long these could realistically be called "fresh" if they are shipped from so far? Then there is the possibility that they might be shipped by air. At the price of fuel of all kinds, how much does that add to the price of the product in question? Not all can afford green beans at $4 per pound. I also wonder if these fruits and vegetables do not contain some chemicals that allow us to believe they are fresh, when in fact they are chemically preserved. Mind now that I am not accusing anyone, just suggesting that what we are told, just might not be 100% true. Sorry Bob, if my doubting Thomas ways are a disappointment to you.

Howie, freeze corn on the cob next Summer for Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the reminder Jenise. :) I'll be buying it tomorrow. I was thinking of just freezing it whole with the husks on, in zip-lock bags. Does anyone have a better suggestion to keep corn-on-the-cob good until Thanksgiving?

You should blanch corn before freezing. But I seem to remember that freezing corn on the cob isn't always too successful; it might turn mushy.

I have frozen brussel sprouts and peas. That's it. Everything else is fresh.

Just peas and limas for us. I'm not sure I buy it that they've got corn right. ;)

Just checked, I've got frozen:

white corn
baby peas
chopped spinach
chopped kale
haricots verts
fava beans, shelled
blueberries
and a bag of mixed frozen vegetables (now where did that come from and what am I going to do with it?)

Along with the majority of posters, peas. And corn.

Roasted Poblano peppers, the supply is sporadic so I roast and freeze. I've also been freezing strips of red and green peppers but that night stop because, no matter how well I wrap them, they make anything else in the freezer taste like peppers.

I wish we could get frozen artichokes here but I've never seen them.

Frozen raspberries to puree and serve with angel food and chocolate cakes.

I always have an assortment of frozen vegetables. And, of course, a whole shelf full of frozen green chile.

The other day, I purchased some celery that had a lot of leaves, so I cut them off and froze them. Whenever I run across a recipe that asks for celery leaves, I never have any.
