Good how-to-cook resource for sharp 10 year old?

Suggestions, please! I'l looking for a really good basic book or online resource to pass along to the family of a sharp 10-year-old with no real cooking experience, so she can pick up the basics to start helping her busy mom cook for the family.

I would suggest a Jamie Oliver book. His recipes are very straightforward and he writes just as he speaks. I've never looked for him on Youtube but I have to believe there are videos of at least some of his recipes on it.

When I was that age I was cooking from a Betty Crocker cookbook! At the time, all I wanted to do was make Steak Diane. In retrospect, though no recipe was worth keeping, I learned a lot about handling food and knives and pans and how to measure....

Good idea, Mike. I was wondering about technique, though, and hoping there might be some kind of how-to-cook book or video for that age range with simple tutorials on stuff like measuring, cutting, boiling, frying, the basics.

Take a look at the Youtube videos tagged with "Jamie's Dream School" and see what you think. I checked out the one on knife technique and you need to go around 6 or 7 minutes in to get to the good stuff (and it's tagged with a language warning) but it looked pretty good.

Hi Robin you might have a look at Delia Smith's website, she has been teaching the Brits to cook for nigh on a thousand years.
She is eminently reliable.
