What should I do with this kale?

by Robin Garr » Mon Apr 18, 2016 5:42 pm

I've got a big bowl of fresh kale from the garden here, but it's not speaking to me. What should I do with it? (Composting it or throwing it out are not options.)

Tell yourself it's crunchy chard and see what happens in the little grey cells.

Massage it, give it a kiss on the forehead, and send it on its way.

I actually made a soup with chard, snow peas, onions and oyster mushrooms in chicken broth for supper last night. The kale would actually have been better than the chard, but I have chard and not kale in the back yard. :)

I absolutely adore chard and wild rice together in a room-temperature salad. Add a few chunks of cooked potato and it's a main course.

I love a dish Betsy makes often when the CSA has kale, " creamed" with miso and mushrooms. Pretty sure NYT or Food52

Just cook it.

For me, sauteed kale has a crispy texture and deep (but not bitter) flavor that is very easy to like.

Of course assuming the specimen is good, which yours should be.
