New discovery: Del Monte grapefruit!

Quart size jars of grapefruit segments from Del Monte, in the reefer section at the supermarket. For $13 I thought it expensive at first, but with fresh grapefruit at $3-4/lb here, and getting nothing but membrane-less fruit and juice, it's actually a bargain for fruit that has absolutely no, NONE, taste of preservative or manufacturing. It's 100% true to the flavor of fresh and in my situation the ease of it is a godsend. I have fed Bob a serving of it almost every morning since buying it for the first time a week ago, and I drink the juice so not a drop is wasted. I'm going to the store this afternoon while the visiting angel is here and absolutely plan to buy more.

My uncle in Phoenix had a grapefruit tree. The ripe grapefruit was as sweet as candy. Yum. One year, I brought home115 lbs of his grapefruit in a suitcase via Southwest. The Southwest rep smiled as he told me, "kinda heavy, isn't it?"

Jean and I will normally have a container of Del Monte grapefruit in the back fridge. She uses it to make a cocktail consisting of Deep Eddy's grapefruit vodka, seltzer water and grapefruit slices with a bit of the juice from the container, too. I agree about the flavor -- it's just grapefruity goodness (sorry, Jeff, and other statin users, for writing those insensitive words)

Being able to eat grapefruit is one reason I like my rosuvastatin. And my total cholesterol hit 118 last time.

Jenise please give more info on the grapefruit, red or yellow, in light syrup, etc. Thank you

Red. The label describes it as "in light syrup" but there's no viscosity there as you might think from the word 'syrup' nor does it appear to be sweetened, artificially or otherwise. Honestly, it's just like the juice you squeeze out of fresh grapefruit.

Yes, the ones we get are pink grapefruit, too, I think the juice has been sweetened, but only modestly, so as you say it has none of the viscosity that one normally expects for fruit packed in "syrup."

I picked up this container yesterday at our new grocery store, which has built a huge new store across the street. It is, indeed, very yummy but pricy—11.99! Considering the time it takes to cut the grapefruit segments yourself, plus the waste of tossing out the rind, I will be buying this container of grapefruit from now on. It has tons of segments and lots of great juice.

I picked up this container yesterday at our new grocery store, which has built a huge new store across the street. It is, indeed, very yummy but pricy—11.99! Considering the time it takes to cut the grapefruit segments yourself, plus the waste of tossing out the rind, I will be buying this container of grapefruit from now on. It has tons of segments and lots of great juice.

This makes me happy. I just ate some myself.

Happened to spy that Del Monte grapefruit. It's $9.99 here for unsweetened and light syrup.

I suggested to Betsy she try it (I'm not a big grapefruit guy, she has often) but she saw it's in sucralose syrup and declined

Turns out there's only 5 grams of carbs per serving between the unsweetened and the light syrup variety, which uses only sugar.

Mine admits to water, cane sugar, and elderberry juice I think it was. I believe there are various versions of this product, some sweeter. Those might have the sucralose.
