Pantry shopping, tariff version

by Dale Williams » Wed Apr 16, 2025 10:59 am

Going to HMart for tiger prawns or big headon shrimp. Figured while there I should stock up on any Chinese items we have less than a year's supply of in these idiotic times. Essentials like chili crisp, Chinkiang vinegar, Shaoxing wine, Pearl River Bridge dark soy sauce. Maybe ya cai or Sichuan pickled vegetables. Think I have plenty of Sichuan peppercorns in both colors.
Will chance that the 90 day pause will hold (I know, no real faith in adherence to his own statements) before I worry about items from other nations.
Anyone else stocking up?

I am: a little: tequila, brandy, wine. Need to buy some oyster sauce, dried mushrooms, rice, Sichuan peppercorns, etc. I'm okay with EEVO, soy sauce, vinegar. Tariff is not the best word in the English language, despite what our stable genius tells us.

A year's supply! Wow.

I'm not one to stock up, but will see if I regret that. Definitely lots of imported foods in my pantry...

Been a little distracted and haven't even considered this. Maybe I should. Should always have an ample supply in Canada, as long as I'm still allowed to bring things home.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
