Buche de Noel

As I receive my monthly cooking magazines I see the usual bunch of Christmas Yule log recipes and while well photographed, some of them look like mutant caterpillars on the prowl. or something out of a 1950s issue of Best of bridge. Does anyone still make this sort of thing (other than people with young children who might welcome the entertainment)?

Last one I saw in real life was a particularly lovely one by our mutual friend Sharon. Probably been about 10 years. Would I ever do that? No. I love building things but I don't have the sweet tooth that would consider all that work a suitable reward.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

The only Bûche de Noël that I've ever seen was one that we helped our son bake for his French class in Junior HS. It was only partly a success, I should add.

I think we made one about 10 years ago as well. With painted meringue mushrooms and everything. It was fun to do once but it's a ton of very dark chocolate so I don't think we'd do it unless it was for a big group so it would all get eaten.
