Happiness is...

Buying fresh picked strawberries (as in, fresh picked by the workers trying to keep up with the sales of the day) from the field across the highway from where you live, and having the incredible scent of fresh picked strawberries instantly suffuse the interior of your car before you can get out of the lot.

While you're heading up the hill to see friends, and eventually have those same strawberries with brown sugar and creme fraiche.

I'm even happier when I can take the beautiful Spring drive to Marble Falls and pick them myself!

Liz and I drove a short distance early AM this past Saturday and picked strawberries. The crop seemed to be very abundant with 90% of the berries still white. In 15 minutes, we picked 7 pounds of perfect berries and have been snacking on them. Liz whips up fresh heavy cream and smothers a warm shortcake biscuit, made with Bisquick, packed with sliced fresh strawberries - our favorite summertime desert. Thanks for reminding me, Hoke.

You know there's this lovely strawberry patch on the edge of a Civil War battlefield near my parents' home...

When my kids were younger and the local strawberry farm had not yet become a housing development, we always felt like the kids shoud have been weighed before and after. They loved strawberry picking. Fresh, ripe strawberries are happiness especially if there is a little tequiella available.

Happiness is picking my own strawberries, which are situated about twenty feet from my back deck, and which are looking quite good thus far this year. About two weeks to go...

My next door neighbor had a beautiful raised bed about 12 feet x 12 feet that was full of strawberry plants. Lovely and tasty too!

Last fall, she ripped them all out and planted bulbs in their place. None of which bloomed. I told her that it was because the strawberry gods were angry with her.

I still can't get my mind around doing that....

That part was deliberate. It adds contrast to the purple stains down the front.

My wife came home from work about an hour ago with a flat of strawberries she bought on the way home. They're a touch less ripe than perfect, so some have been blended up with cream, sugar, and balsamic and they're churning in the ice cream freezer right now.

I was off by two weeks. Ate the first of my strawberries yesterday. As it has been relatively dry here, they are in great shape and eating beautifully sweet!

Enough of the strawberries. Happiness is a grilled ribeye! I wonder if Stuart makes grilled ribeye margaritas?

I totally agree with Robert!
