WTN: another try at Scheurebe

by Jim Grow » Wed Jun 07, 2017 10:48 pm

2011 Messmer QBA Scheurebe; This wine from the Pfalz had some good and bad points. First the good ones, great acidity and a sprityness that was quite endearing with nicely balanced RS. Unfortunately the bad point was serious. Lots of Sauvignon Blanc character including grassiness and dominated by cat pee. I used to love German Scheurebe and maybe it has changed due to global warming or I was more enamored with the auslese end of the spectrum but this rendition was not to my liking although I did finish my portion of the bottle. abv of 11% and a Terry Thise selection How can anyone LIKE cat pee notes?

Less ripe Scheurebe can be aggressively Sauvignon-esque. That is why I buy riper ones!
