With chili on a chilly evening we started with a 2005 Vitanza Brunello di Montalcino which was very dull/boring. Strored very well and very black in color, could this wine be in decline? I opened in to celebrate the end of firewood-cutting season so opened a more reliable older wine, the 2001 Pegau Res. This was everything I was hoping for with sour cherry and sweaty leather with obvious brett or just the funky barnyard thing going on. It held up nicely through out the meal and gained in complexity over the hour. Glad I have more of this wine. I am now ready for a cold winter!
